The New Platforms

The original Broadway Platforms were 400 ft long. When first built, because the ground on the Southern end was unsettled, the platforms were built on wooden supports. When the ground consolidated they were reconstructed in brick, like that of the remainder.

The current plan is to rebuild the platforms to the same appearance as the old (Old English Bond), and extend their eventual length to 720 ft. This will be achieved in several stages, firstly building platform 1, followed by platform 2.

Platforms 1 and 2 are now completed, apart from the gaps by the Signal Box(2) and the main entrance (1). Work is currently proceeding to completed the platform structure around the recently completed Signal Box. Here we see work in progress on platform 2 in 2013 and then more recently the completed wall from the same perspective.
